History remembers only the celebrated, genealogy remembers them all. — Laurence Overmire, American poet and genealogist

About me

Welcome!

Hello, I’m Eglė Jarašiūnaitė, a genealogist based in Kaunas, the second largest city in Lithuania after the capital Vilnius. I was born and raised here, but I spent ten years in Denmark, where I earned my education in Tourism.

I have over fifteen years of experience researching Lithuanian family histories and working with Lithuanian diaspora communities around the world. My work focuses on helping people reconnect with their roots through:

• Family history research in Lithuania and among Lithuanian diaspora communities

• DNA-based research and solving family mysteries

• Organizing authentic heritage and homecoming experiences

• Planning meaningful family gatherings

In 2021, I completed my Master’s degree in Tourism at Aalborg University in Copenhagen. My thesis on ancestral tourism in Lithuania took me on a six-month journey with eight groups of travelers who came searching for their origins. I observed their emotions, discoveries, and transformations — how standing in their ancestors’ villages or visiting old family homes changed the way they saw themselves. That experience taught me how meaningful and healing ancestral travel can be when it’s done with care and understanding.

Today, I organize and lead ancestral trips in cooperation with the Lithuanian travel agency Mūsų Odisėja. As a certified tour guide and tour leader, my goal is to create journeys that go beyond sightseeing — trips that connect you with your family’s story and the land that holds it.
